Scrapbook pages

I went to a scrapbooking breast cancer fundraiser yesterday at our local scrapbook store with some of my scrappin' buddies. Even though we chatted a lot, I did get 10 pages done, including Disney and Kyle's birthday. I am currently caught up, which is nice with fall/holiday/Emma's birthday stuff coming up. I always take a ton of pictures this time of year. Anyway, here are a few from yesterday:

Kyle's 4th grade picture

Again, a little bit funky on the smile, but I told him I wanted him to smile showing his teeth and this is what he came up with. He's still kinda cute though. ;) I do like that his face looks fuller than last year. He'd lost a lot of weight when he started taking his medication, so he looked really thin in last years picture. He's gained 10 pounds this past year so he looks healthier to me.

Aaron Neville

You know that song by Aaron Neville, "Everybody Plays the Fool"? It came on the radio today when we were driving home from preschool. I don't really care for it that much, so I changed the channel. Emma immediately had a shit fit, and started screaming for me to turn it back. Ummmmm...what the hell? So, I turned it back and she instantly stopped freaking out. I had no idea she was such a raging Aaron Neville fan. ;)

Screen musings

Rob and I have been watching "The Sopranos on DVD". We never had HBO so neither of us had ever seen the show. The nice thing about watching it after the fact, is that we can just watch it back to back and not have to wait. I have noticed myself after a couple hours of shows per night, beginning to talk a little "jersey" and cursing a lot. "get the fuck outta hee" ;)

I also went to see the movie "Eastern Promises" with some friends the other night. I like violence and nakedness in a movie and this one did not disappoint. Although it was a bit much for my friend who told me that I wasn't allowed to pick movies anymore. ;) The odd thing was that the movie didn't really have an ending, it just kind of stopped. I can take some artsy film making now and then, but maybe I'm a bit old fashioned because I kind of need an ending to my movie.

This summer I've been watching the USA show "Burn Notice". It has one of my favorite actors from back in "The Pretender" days. Anyway, the season finale was last week and it won't be back until next summer. I've got a craving, so I hope Nip/Tuck is going to be back on soon.

Soccer pics

Sorry it's been awhile since I've updated. I was sick last week and didn't really do much or have much to talk about. I don't really have too much to talk about now either, come to think of it. ;) So here are a couple of pictures of Kyle and his soccer team:

Fall decor and 4 year old weight watchers

I put up some fall type decorations the other day and it just really made me ready for pumpkin patches and apple orchards. Our mantel looks good with these oranges, brown and reds. My picture is a little crooked for some reason, so just ignore that part. ;)

Speaking of fall, today was quite chilly this morning. We decided we were going to try out the church that Emma goes to preschool. Since it was only 60ish degrees I had to go through Emma's closet to pull out some new pants. We always laugh at Emma's tummy that protrudes quite a bit and we call it her "boof". Anyway, I had bought a bunch of 5T pants last spring when they were on clearance. We tried on 5 different pairs before we found one that we could button, and that one isn't even going to last very long. I was like...damn, Emma we need to get you on a weight watchers program! ;)

Preschooler

Emma started preschool yesterday and as expected, had a great time. It was so nice dropping her off and being able to come home, unlike last year. I had laundry from vacation to get done and bills to pay, so the 2.5 hours went by way too fast.

Back from Disney

That was a fast trip. It wasn't much in the way of relaxing because we did so much, but it was awesome. We still had a great time and ate like kings. We did a ton of walking, but I still gained weight because of all the super fatty fat food I ate. We went to a pirates of the Caribbean party with a dessert bar, a breakfast with Alice in Wonderland and a buffet dinner at a 50's type diner. Plus all of the other snacks and meals provided by my richy rich sister. ;)

Random thoughts about travelling, Disney World and people in general:

-I'd never flown before.....so the whole airport, plane ride stuff that I had thought was so big time and intimidating, was totally no big deal. Signs tell you where to go and what to do. Plus, since I'd never done it before I wasn't at all bothered by taking my shoes off or having my bag x-rayed.

-It was hot....so that lends itself to seeing people wearing less that they should be wearing. And since this was one of the biggest vacation spots in the world, we're talking about a variety of gnarly and super fat people wearing skin tight shorty shorts and bikini tops. Ugh...I'll have nightmares for years.

-That isn't even the tip of the iceberg though as far as feet are concerned. I am a nasty feet connoisseur....I just can't seem to look away from bunions, hammer toes, yellow gnarly nails that are curled over the toe by an inch......it was a fucking smorgasbord of podiatric delight!

-since I lived in a college town for a good number of years, I am used to seeing and hearing people from other countries, but there were so many more dialects and people I'd never run across before...like people in line with us that were from Trinidad, park employees from Morocco and people sitting by us at a restaurant from England. It was very interesting to talk to people and hear their accents.

-Speaking of accents....I lived in Texas when I was a kid and I've heard "ya'll"'s galore....but I had never, until this weekend, hear anyone in real life speak like "Mater" from Cars. This man said to his wife "Dag gum, man!" I was like....did I just hear what I thought I heard? So every time after that we'd hear a thick southern drawl my sister and I would break out the "dag gum, did you hear that", as drawl-y as possible.

-People let their teenage daughters dress/act like whores. Not that this is too surprising, but again I've never witnessed it up close and personal like that. We constantly were seeing 14/15/16 year old girls getting dry humped by their boyfriends, right in front of mom and dad. I was like "time to pony up the dough for another abortion, right dad?!!!" Then there was the swearing and cussing of the children. This one girl told her dad that he was a "fucking pussy" and he never said a word to her. Nice values. I know, why don't you reward your bratty-ass kids with a trip to Disney World!!!

Anyway, that's about all I have to say about that, but here are a few pictures:

Off to Disney

I'm heading up to my sister's house in MN today and we'll be on our way to Disneyworld tomorrow morning. This going to be so sweet! :) I'm sure I'll have a ton of pics to share when I get back next week. Until then, here are a couple random pics to get you by:

Catching up

I've been working on some scrapbooking this weekend. It's been months since I've touched it, so I was....and still am quite behind. I like to stay current so it doesn't become overwhelming. I had basketball for last winter, fishing from Canada, and swimming summer stuff. Now I only have 4th of July, baseball, Kyle's birthday and back to school.....is that all? ;) I even did some handwritten journaling. That is something I NEVER do, so someone ought to feel pretty special. Here are some of the pages that I completed:

Fourth grader

Kyle started his first day of fourth grade today. Thankfully, unlike last year, it wasn't pouring rain on him. It has been raining off and on since then, though. It was hard to get back into the morning routine since we've been out of it for 3 months. I couldn't even remember what time we usually left. Now that's pathetic. ;) Anyway, here are a couple of pictures:

Emma's hair

It was bound to happen I suppose, but I was really hoping we were past this stage. Emma cut her hair. It's not too bad and you can't really tell now that we've gotten it cut, but still, I know it's there and I'm pissed every time I see it. She totally knew it was naughty because she dumped the chunk in the trash and then when I saw her, she immediately launched into the "I'm so sorry" bit. Here is a pic of the chunk and a pic of her after her haircut yesterday:

Mitt Romney

When this guy first burst onto the political scene, Rob and I were both like...what the hell kind of name is Mitt? As time went on we found our selves speculating what Mitt could possibly be short for. His name is actually Willard Mitt Romney, but it was fun to think of other names. It started out innocent enough: Mittford, Mittphry. Then it got a little drag-queenish: Mittleficent, Mittnirva. Then it got all crazy: Mittnan the Barbarian, Draco Mittfoy. But my personal favorite: Mittowlark Lemon. ;)

State Fair

For the first time in as long as I can remember, we went to the Iowa State fair without a camera. I can't beleive I forgot it. So, no proof that we went, had fun and that Kyle and Emma went on that ride that drops you to the ground....but it happened! It was hot as a bitch yesterday too. We went in the morning to try and avoid some of the hottest part of the day, so by 2:00 we were back home. Then out of the blue, it rained for like 10 minutes. Whatever! It is so God damned expensive to go there, too. Between the outragious prices for food, rides and anything else you come across, it's still $5 for parking. Ah, the fair.....$50 of fun per hour. ;)

Random annoyances

A couple irritating observations for today. First, people who can't spell. That drives me nuts in this online world of spell check. I guarantee that even if you are a complete idiot to the English language, any spell check program will tell you that "tooken" is not a word. ie: the link above.
Secondly, this Duggar family on Discovery Health. I love watching shows with people with tons of kids. Mostly because I would never have that many and I enjoy watching the freak show, whilst my two are quietly sleeping. This family just had their 17th child and the mom was talking about having more immediately after. What is missing in your life if you are already planning more babies and can't even enjoy the one you just had? Another thing that only I would think of, because that is how my brain works.....check out this picture of them:

Look at the massive amounts of hair that these little girl clones have. Can you imagine all the hairballs down the drain? My husband, a plumber, could make a living just servicing their house alone. ;)

I have a 10 year old boy!

Well, not yet, but we did have Kyle's birthday party on Saturday. His birthday is officially Tuesday, but it's going to be pretty boring as he got all his gifts yesterday. ;) We had his party at this place that sells outdoor play equipment...swing sets, basketball hoops, etc. They let you use all of their stuff indoors and they have a party room. He had a great time and he had a pretty good turn out. I was a little worried that he wouldn't have very many classmates show as he's only been in school with them one year, but he had about 6 from school and then some other/playgroup friends. I made cupcakes this year as his theme was Yu Gi Oh and no one has that in cakes...at least around here. I was a little shocked when 2 or 3 of the kids declined a cupcake. What kid doesn't like cupcakes? Anyway, Kyle had 2, so I think the birthday boy liked them. Here are some pictures. One is of me and Kyle and of course, my brother had to put his "rabbit ears" fingers behind Kyle's head.

Gladiolus

I planted some gladiolus by our new little tree this spring. They were just random bulbs, so I had no idea what colors they might turn out to be. Check this one out, all cute and orange-y:
